Location & Surroundings
The holiday home is located in the hamlet of La Garenne in Aubas, 2.5 km from Montignac. The house offers plenty of privacy, even though there are other homes nearby. It has its own driveway, entrance, veranda, and courtyard.
The spacious garden is shared (with the Dutch owners) and is part of the 5.25-hectare estate. Here you can relax, go for walks, or enjoy activities such as badminton, volleyball, pétanque, or football.

This area is rich in greenery, forests, rolling hills, rivers, castles, caves, and many medieval towns where you can experience that truly authentic French atmosphere.
The Périgord Noir is also known for its excellent French cuisine, featuring truffles, walnuts, goat cheese, wild boar, duck, and foie gras. Many local markets showcase these products from the fertile region.
Montignac / Lascaux
Montignac/Lascaux is a beautiful medieval tourist town on the River La Vézère, just 2.5 km from your holiday home. The town is world-famous for its main attraction: the prehistoric cave of Lascaux. The original cave is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and can no longer be visited, but it has been replaced by Lascaux IV, where you can get an excellent impression of large parts of the caves and their impressive paintings.
Prehistoric life is presented at Parc Le Thot, near the Château et Jardins de Losse on the way to Les Eyzies.
Montignac is built along the River La Vézère and offers many restaurants, including several right by the water. Shops, bars, an ice cream parlour, and the weekly markets (Wednesday and Saturday) create a lively atmosphere. You can also enjoy a beautiful canoe trip on the river, choosing how long you would like to paddle. You arrange with the rental provider where and when you would like to be picked up, and then drift downstream with the current—an unforgettable experience.
Sarlat la Canéda
The closest large city is Sarlat. It is a 20 km away from Montignac and reachable via the scenic route D704. Sarlat is named the pearl of the Dordogne and rightly so! It is a facinating city with medieval architecture and a bustling cultural center. A year round market is held on Saturdays featuring fresh local products, quirky trinkets, beautiful jewelry and clothes. In the winter they host a characteristic Christmas market including a skating rink.
Saint Amand de Coly
In Saint Amand de Coly you will find a twice weekly market where you can buy an abundance of fresh local products to completely immerse yourself in the French atmosphere. What you definitely need to experience is a trip to the “marché des producteurs” during the months of July and August. It is an exceptional market where, French, English and Dutch come together to enjoy the delicious regional flavors and wines. You choose your own meal and drink and allow the locals to prepare it for you on a large barbeque . Bon appétit!

Vide-Greniers en Brocantes
France is also famous for its many markets oin addition to the previously mentioned produce market: “marché des producteurs de Pays”. They are als known for the Vide-Greniers: the fleemarkets and the Brocantes: the antique and curiosities markets. These markets are regularly held in the many communities of the Dordogne. Enjoy a day wandering about the markets to return home with a special purchase or just to have a peak.

Additionally, you can also visit large cities such as Perigueux, Brive La Gaillarde, Bergerac and Bordeaux with their vibrant commercial centers. They are historical cities where you can wander around, find a terrace and enjoy a bite to eat
It is also worth the effort to pay a visit to the former castle of Josephine Baker, nearby Bergerac and known as the “Château Milandes” with its beautiful gardens.

Magnificent Nature
The Dordogne is a beautiful place in terms of nature. The many green forests, caves, rivers, hills, fields and altitudes create a surprising, changing landscape. A great place to completely unwind and relax. The Périgord Noir in the Vallée sur Vézère is known for its many faces, beautiful rivers, rolling hills, forest filled territory, touristic places, prehistoric caves and lovely towns, brocantes and markets. The people are very kind and helpfull.
The Dordogne and especially the Périgord have been inhabited by people and animals for centuries. They have left their mark behind in the wonderful painting in the prehistoric caves, charming castles and manors along the meandering La Vézère and La Dordogne rivers and throughout the medieval homes in the towns and cities.
